The Swiss 1. Liga is the third tier in the Swiss football league system. The league is split into three groups of 16 teams. The groups are categorized by region. Several of the bigger Swiss clubs have outfits in the league comprised of mostly U-21 players.

David Hasler, one of the most dynamic players in Lichtenstein competes for the FC Basel II club, but has also seen action with the senior club. Orhan Mustafi also recently competed for FC Basel II.
