CFR Cluj Bringing in Top Talent for 2008-2009 UEFA Champions League

CFR Cluj won the 2007-2008 Liga I championship. The club is the first squad outside of Bucharest to win Romania's top football league in the last 17 years. With the championship, the team is now guaranteed a spot in the group stage of the lucrative UEFA Champions League. This added revenue has allowed to club to bring in several notable transfers to be made official on July 1st.

The club has so far signed four players plus three more have returned from loan spells.

22-year-old Portuguese defender Vitinha, Romanian defender Dorin Toma, and 22-year-old Romania winger Ciprian Deac are all back after loan spells.

The club has so far (unofficially) signed:

Burkina Faso international forward Yssouf Koné previously of Rosenborg BK.

Plus three South American players:

Brazilian defender Hugo Alcantara who lasted played with Portuguese outfit Belenenses, Argentine midfielder Cristian Sánchez Prette from Club Atlético Huracán, and 23-year-old Uruguyan midfielder Alvaro Pereira last with Argentinos Juniors.
